What are Add-ons?

Add-ons are essentially player made programs and/or changes to the game that are designed to enhance your experience and preform functions that are not built into the base game. They function in similar fashion to the mods of other Elder Scrolls Games, though what add-ons can do is restricted due to the MMO nature of ESO.

Where do you download add-ons?

The best place to go is www.esoui.com to search them up. There are other sites such as nexusmods.com that have them as well but esoui is the one that authors provide updates to the most often.

How do you install Add-ons?

  • You can use an Add-on Manager such as Minion (https://minion.mmoui.com). Minion is highly recommended as it can be set to back up your mods as well as auto update them.
  • You can manually install the mod by downloading it. Unzipping the file and placing it within the add-on folder. Usually this folder is located (Documents\Elder Scrolls Online\live\Add-ons)

Below is a list of Add-ons that I consider to be the bare essentials for new players. Please note that I excluded combat related and specialty add-ons because I consider those more advanced tools. Anyway here is the list:

  • Awesome Guild Store: Overhauls the Guild Store User Interface to allow you better options for searching, buying, and selling your wares. It is worth it just for the ability to save your searches alone.
  • Master Merchant: Tracks the items and prices of all sales in the guilds that you are currently in and gives you an average recommended buy/sell point. It also gives you a nice little graph so that you can look at all of the pretty points of data.
  • Tamriel Trade Center: This Add-on scans all guild stores and uploads the data to the TTC website. Tracks items by active listings and gives a recommended price. This is especially useful when you come across those really rare items. For it to work you do need to run a third party client. If you do not feel comfortable doing so, you can run a web based client instead.
  • Craft Store: This add-on creates an in game User interface that helps you track everything that your character knows about crafting. It tracks how many traits you have researched, recipes you know, alchemy research, motif styles learned. It also overhauls the Provisioning UI to make it easier to craft multiple foods and select favorite recipes
  • Potion Maker: Companion add-on to Craft Store that improves the Alchemy UI so that you can make pots easier and faster.
  • Multicraft: Allows you to refine multiple raw mats at one time, also allows you to craft multiple copies of equipment at once.
  • pChat: This Add-On overhauls the in game chatting system to what ZOS should have made the default setting. It stores old chat text, allows you to link to web based sources. Copy chat messages and much more.
  • Skyshards: Skyshards are locations that for every 3 you interact with give you much needed skill points, however, they don’t show up on the default map. This adds them to your map so you can find them without having to decipher some cryptic achievement text #ThanksZOS.
  • Lore Books: The Mages Guild requires you to collect these books as one of two ways to level in the guild. This adds them to the map just like Skyshards.
  • Lost Treasure: Treasure Maps and Surveys in the default game just give you a picture to go by. This is silly, everyone knows that when searching for treasure X marks the spot. This helps you out with that.
  • Destinations: The purpose of a map is to help people find things that they don’t know how to get to. ESO’s default map has you wandering around getting lost. This add-on gives you to turn on various features such as quest locations and where to get achievements.
  • Votan’s Mini Map: ZOS Conveniently forgot to include a mini map in ESO. This one is Wolfie’s personal preferences and several other mini map add-ons are out there. I would encourage everyone to get one.

That is the list for now. As stated above these are just the basic Add-ons that I recommend that new players check out. There are many more out there, as more detailed guides get added to the site there may be add-ons that are recommend that will help you out.
