oh hi there! I run … a few guilds in ESO, as you may already know. You’re probably in one of my guilds if you’re reading this, it’s cool. I just NEED to put these issues down because, well, SOMEONE HAS TO KNOW.
Now, to start with, I run The Auction House, The Silk Road, Insert Guild Name Here, and RawlMart. I made my first guild within 10 minutes of the server being online for PC NA. I have never gone inactive and I’ve subbed the whole time. I’ve seen the start of One Tamriel, the start of guild traders, I remember back when we got vet ranks. In other words, I like the game and I’ve been here as it evolved.
The very first week of the guild finder was a bit of chaos, the second week too if you want to get technical. This patch we had some kind of guild finder update, so I want to share with you my observations.
First I should add this disclaimer, I AM SO GLAD WE NOW HAVE THE GUILD FINDER. It is all I’m using now for my guilds. No more open invites, no more recruiting, no more zone ads (no matter how popular some of my ads were). Guild finder is it for me. I really like being able to have people apply, and learn more about the people who want to join.
IF YOU ARE TRYING TO APPLY TO JOIN A GUILD:
This is the screen the GM sees:
@name, level, time until the application expires.
they all kind of blur together
these people could be amazing and I would never know
as you can see, even the smallest message makes someone stand out
look here, this person is only a level 30 compared to all those CPs there, BUT they went to MY WEBSITE, they appreciate ALL my work, and they seem pretty chill. CP levels you will get eventually, not everyone is a cool person. This person was accepted, the rest, maybe not.
The reason I’m showing you this is so that you understand when it says for you to write something, you really should. We get a lot of applications and you can make yours stand out, if you’re new or not.
I’m going to leave a space here as I may end up adding the applications of more people that I liked.
not going to lie, this person was approved
I approved this person too. I know that crafting several types of staffs and robes seem like a small thing, but this tells me this person wants to contribute SOMETHING. It also made me smile
This one is for the silk road, and again, I liked the application. You’ll see none of these people are max level, but they pleased me.
THIS PERSON, not only did I dislike them, I blacklisted them.
here’s why:
when I’m in the game, I’m “offline”. I don’t accept whispers. Not everyone is like that, but I run 4 guilds and an escrow. Mail me. My whispers are too much when I’m online. This person says I need to be pOlItE enough to whisper them before I decline their application. No. I’m not going online and hoping against all hope that you’re online before I hit the decline button. The guild this person applied to had almost 300 applications when I logged in today. Imagine if each person demanded a whisper before I hit decline.
This is not a job, you don’t get paid, I don’t get paid. Demanding I whisper you before I press “decline” when I don’t know you, we’re not friends, and I don’t owe you a thing tells me you’ll be high maintenance and annoying.
This is 10 minutes of applications for me. Imagine if I had to whisper each person before I processed their application.
NOW – if you did want to know why I declined you could say something like “if you’re able, please respond in the decline application box with how I could make my application more appealing” instead of acting like I am being rude by not contacting you…
Here’s some more applications I declined
This person, declined. It’s cool to be a solo person, that’s fine. I don’t have rules about participating, but this person feels like they’re looking down on anyone who does use the discord or pvp together.
I also declined this person. Here’s why. It’s great that they’re 875cp, but I can see they’re 810. You can only apply 810 points so I guess, great job? We’re a trade guild so that does not matter to us. But look at the tone here. “I took a 30 day break and came back to me being kicked” – guess what, I would have kicked you too pal. I can give up to one month with notice, but this tone reads like they BLAME that guild for kicking them. Nah, you left for a month. Guess what, I want breaks too sometimes, but if I take a 30 day break my guilds fall apart. You sound bitter and like you hold a grudge. I’m good.
Now, obviously, not all GMs are like me. I’m busy, old, and tired. Other guilds may want other things from members. I just wanted you to see what I see and how I pick who I accept. This may help you, it may not. It MAY have you saying “damn that AC is an entitled bitch (that’s cool, it’s quite true)”. Either way, here’s my to do list when applying for guilds:
DO – write something in the application
DO – mention something about the guild listing that you liked
DO – mention what you hope to bring to the guild in the future
remember – we all started out at low levels, but we didn’t all start out as asshats. One of those things is fixable, one is not.
And now, for the real main reason for my post:
My Guild Finder Annoyance Point List:
Why do the expired applications not disappear? And why is the time organizing borked? And WHY am i saying borked? i blame paco
*these applications are supposed to be sorted by the ones with the least amount of time left
that’s not how that should look
these two images were taken within 1 minute of each other. Which number is correct?
annoyance point – one minute it shows 200 applications on the screen, then you accept/decline someone and it only shows 20
annoyance point – there really needs to be a decline all button
annoyance point – there really needs to be a search function
annoyance point – i know TAH has over 50 pending applications at least, but i cannot switch screens without denying/accepting someone so i can’t browse through them
*in other words, there’s no next screen button like there is when you’re say, shopping in the guild store
annoyance point – let me turn off notifications for applications please
annoyance point – after someone maxes on guilds their applications should auto decline
AND NOW, let me show you the highlight, or one of the highlights. I cannot change notifications, and ZOS randomly decides when to notify me about a change in the application status. I did, however, take a few screens so you can see how there’s SOMETHING wrong here
declined one application, notification dinged
… um, shouldn’t that say 238? how did that get down to 30?
declined two more applications, notification dinged
huh?
accepted one application, notification dinged
… ok?
declined 4 applications and:
but
these are all in order by the way
I don’t feel like continuing so
you see my issue here?
ok, I sadly have much more to do this day, but I’m hitting publish regardless. I may add to this later.
